The Snow is Still Falling

Still falling lightly...Oh my, we have at least 25 inches I have heard from the tv weather report. Actually ABC news, our channel 7, was at Commack Corners this morning at 5:30 am with the snow totals. I was up and down all night peeking out the window and trying to figure out just how much was actually on the ground. The drifts are high and the roads are impassable. Our minivan is buried! My husband left the house at 5:45 and walked up to a main road to meet a vehicle that would bring him to his trucks. What a day! I think we will be buried for a few days! I'm just so happy we didn't lose power! When you open my front door here is what you see:

My backyard---there is a concrete patio table and benches under there somewhere...

The view of my block from my snowy porch...

The snow falling through my icicle lights....

Out the window of my son's bedroom; so peaceful :)

Yesterday, I was in and out refilling my bird feeders and feeding my squirrel friends. I have four squirrels who visit me every day for peanuts and peanut butter bread. They are quite friendly and are very polite to wait for their food. If I am in the kitchen, they sit at the rear deck and stare into my big kitchen window to let me know they are there. If I am in the hallway near the bathroom, they sit on my other rear porch and look in the back door. They like to spy through my sliders in the family room or just sit on the front porch by the front door and WAIT. I love them so much! This little guy just wanted more and more. At one point it looked like he was begging or even praying I would come out again with more snacks. Of course I did ;)

He was so cute. The cardinals and juncos were out and I tied my Christmas tree to the horse chestnut near the feeder so the birds could wait deep in its branches and stay dry while they await their turn at the feeder.

My squirrels, birds and raccoons and possums are my backyard buddies.

They are the wildlife we have in the suburbs and they have adjusted to all of us as neighbors.

Here's a corner of my kitchen that I love. I was dusting it yesterday and changing a few things around!

I can never understand when people complain they are bored. I don't have enough hours in the day to do everything I would like to accomplish, and I have a list of things I want to do a mile long! Life is what you make it, right? Have a smile and a grateful heart!

I hope you have a glorious day! I'll be home! Digging Out!

  1. I pray that your power doesn't go out. We also go snow ...but not quite as much as you ....I also pray that my power doesn't go out :) I love the photos you took ...WOW! Those squirrels are so darn cute! My mom use to take in wild life all the time. A few times she had baby squirrels ...she would have to feed with a tiny bottle :) I'll have to look for those pictures and post them! We also had some pet chipmunks and a raccoon. We had alot of domestic pets but we always had a few lost wild babies. Have a blessed day and I wish your family to stay safe and cosy.

  4. Good evening Maggie, I agree there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done that I want to accomplish. Even if I am staying home for the day I find enough to keep me busy. Life is what you make it, and you want every minute to count. Your home is so warm and cozy, and I can tell filled with love. Love your photos of your outside buddies, my that get treated ever so nicely. Hope you managed to get dug out, it took us most of the day. Stay safe, greetings from snowy Maine, Julie.
