Good Morning! Monday again! The weekends go speeding by! Mid August~~Wow! Our kids return to school September 9th so these last few weeks have to be meaningful! It's been a good Summer! I'm so grateful! We started off with a really fun 4th of July, a great trip to PA, several day trips, bbqs, firepits at night at our house, VBS, Caitlin's Summer party, frequent visits to our neighbor's pool, the beach and more! We did a ton of work to our yard, completed the chicken coop...oh and went to several good yard sales! Speaking of sales.....On Saturday I had seen an ad for a moving sale. It listed many things but some of the words that stood out to me were "PA DUTCH COUNTRY ITEMS, RAGGEDY ANNES, HALLOWEEN, CHRISTMAS, OLD COUNTRY DECORATING MAGAZINES, VINTAGE HOUSEWARES" Sounded so perfect and it was only two towns away but that isn't far -- only about 15 minutes. Unfortunately Caitlin and Billy have both been suffering with allergy issues badly, and they were really under the weather from Friday and into Saturday. I did not have the heart to suggest us going. Sometimes you just have to let one go! And I was alright with that. My husband was actually measuring up a job he is going to start not far from there and so he passed by in the evening to see where the sale had been and if it was still going on at almost dinnertime but it was not--good try Bill! I love that man for that!
Sunday morning after Church, we decided to give it a try to see if the family was having the sale for a second day. Her ad had only announced Saturday--we went and there she had the items that were left! And there was some good stuff! She still had some Raggedy Annes but nothing special and was pretty pricey on them so I passed, the Christmas that was left was newer and I passed on that as well as what was left of the Halloween items.Only gore type Halloween items which I hate. I'm a traditional Halloween lover of jack o' lanterns, black cats and witches but NEVER blood and gore and knives and murder. That is not Halloween in my mind! It's candy and costumes and black and orange and Halloween parties with full moons and owls, and trick or treat and Boo ...sorry, I am very passionate about what Halloween means!
Anyway, here's what I came home with:
Some milk bottles from Vermont Country Farms. I loved these cause Vermont is another favorite state of mine! (Vermont Country Store!). Love those happy little cow graphics. I also got this really old milk bottle from a dairy in upstate New York, Kingston. It has the cardboard lid too! Now I want to get an old milk box for my porch. My Grandma in Connecticut had one on her porch and it became my "seat" as a little girl when we would sit on her porch! Wish I had that aluminum box now!
My son got a couple of OLD Pepsi bottles for his Coke & Pepsi collection!
I saw this very nice metal plant stand for $2 and picked that up! If I don't use it, I think I may put it outside my Mom's home for her entryway. We'll see what she says.
And lastly we got this great Amish hutch!
It's not big; it's just the right size for a place i the basement that we have in mind. I have two family rooms in the house and one of them is in the basement. The basement family room has a big fireplace. It will look perfect there!
A great find at a great price. The owner was happy too. She is moving to Arizona next week to get away from the cold weather and wanted to get rid of everything! Downsizing, she told me.
When we were building our house, we lived in our basement for a full year while my husband built the house above our heads! Our lovely basement needs a facelift now. We are repainting and getting rid of the carpet --puttiing down a very nice wood floor. This hutch will be a nice addition.

After the sale, we headed home and it was still quite early so I made us a big brunch.
All in all, I would say it was a Successful Sunday!

Great hutch. It seems like a lot of people are downsizing lately so there are so good deals to be found.
ReplyDeleteYay! It's so much fun finding perfect bargains for places in your home!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!

That was so sweet of your husband to try and see if it was still going on after his measuring job. You really did come home with some fun treasures. Love that plant stand and hutch. I'm right there on avoiding the gore when it comes to Halloween too. We're all about the festive vintage Halloween. Just wait until you see my dollhouse kitchen that I'm giving a Halloween makeover.
ReplyDeleteThese are really great treasures Margaret...love love the hutch! I so wish I lived up north where seemingly you can find so many nice things! Loretta xx
